ST. LUKES EPISCOPAL CHURCH
Addition
Mount Joy, PA

The clients considered many different solutions to the problem of making their church accessible to wheelchairs, before finally settling on an addition proposed by the architect.  The result is a secondary entrance pavilion containing a new stair and lift which connect both the sanctuary and the lower level social hall directly to the street. In addition to solving the access problem, the project greatly improves circulation in the 100 year old church, to the benefit of the entire congregation. New construction is situated so as to preserve the traditional formal entrance to the church, and materials and details are utilized which compliment the historic stone exterior.
